Guildford is a very pleasant market town situated in a gap in the North Downs where the River Wey passes through.
Guildford from the South
This photo was taken from Artington. The chalk sides of the downs
in Guildford are clearly visible (in days gone by chalk was quarried from this
part of Guildford). Just out of sight on the left is Holy Trinity Church tower.
The train is on the main Portsmouth line, and has just emerged from St Catherine's

The North Downs
Looking towards Chilworth across the river Wey valley. The North Downs provide
miles of beautiful unspoilt countryside, a mecca for walkers and cyclists.
