Well, the time came when the pineapple was ready! With a fabulous golden-orange hue and a lingering sweet odour throughout the room there was no doubt that three years of nurture had yielded a finer specimen than could be bought in any supermarket. And yes, it was grown using entirely organic methods! Anyway: friends were gathered for the ceremony, and here are the images. The Pineapple, the King of Fruits.

| The pictures below show the comparison between my freshly harvested pineapple and a couple of store-bought ones. No prizes for guessing the one ripened on the plant! Of the other two, the left one was bought in Lidl, and the small one is a special Queen pineapple from Waitrose. I am also growing one of these (actually the plant is visible on the windowsill in the photo above), and hope to have a fruit on it next year. | |
