Some photos from the hottest weekend of the year:
Punting on the River Cam near Grantchester.
Swans on the river Cam.
Southend (Essex)
Hotter than the Mediterranean!
One of the Southend Pier light railway services arrives at the landward terminal after its mile-long
trip across the sweltering Thames Estury.
The actual record seems to have gone either to Gravesend in Kent, with 38.1 °C on August 10,
or Brogdale near Faversham (also Kent), with 38.5 °C being recorded on the same day. Kent is on the far
side (South) of the Thames estury from Southend where the above photos were taken.
